In patients with congestive heart failure administration of Avapro can cause oliguria and acute renal failure. Irbesartan is not administered in pediatric patients below 6 years of age. In patients undergoing treatment with diuretics or hemodialysis and in patients with salt or volume depletion transient hypotension may occur on administration of Avapro. The patient should be kept in supine position and should be administered with normal saline to treat this transient hypotension. Irbesartan should be administered with caution in renal artery stenosis, aortic or mitral valve stenosis, and obstructive cardiomyopathy.
