The dose of Capoten should be reduced in patients with renal impairment. In patients with renal impairment Captopril administration can cause hyperkalemia. Captopril administration can precipitate hypotension in patients who are on diuretics or who have dietary salt restriction. The patient should be advised to discontinue the diuretic or increase the salt intake one week before Captopril treatment. The patient should be kept in supine position and should administer normal saline to treat transient hypotension. It is not advisable to consume Capoten during pregnancy as it can lead to fetal death.
