Vasotec is an Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor ACE inhibitor. ACE inhibitor inhibits the conversion of Angiotensin I to Angiotensin II. Guidelines before using Enalapril
Enalapril should not be administered in nursing mothers, neonates and in pediatric patients with decreased glomerular filtration rate. The concomitant administration of Vasotec and potassium supplements or potassium sparing diuretics can increase the levels of potassium in the blood. If you are taking diuretic along with Vasotec there is a chance of developing hypotension. Hence it is advisable to discontinue diuretic 2 days before Enalapril treatment.  The co administration of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and Enalapril can cause deterioration of renal failure.  It is not advisable to consume the Enalapril during pregnancy as it can lead to fetal death. Enalapril should not be given along with lithium as it can cause lithium toxicity. Vasotec can cause angioedema and non productive cough. Enalapril should be given with caution in patients with obstruction in flow from left ventricle of heart.
