Zestril is an Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor ACE inhibitor. ACE inhibitor inhibits the conversion of Angiotensin I to Angiotensin II. Guidelines before using Lisinopril
The dose of Lisinopril should be adjusted in patients with renal impairment. If diuretic is also to be administered along with Zestril, the dose of Zestril should be reduced. The concomitant administration of Zestril and potassium supplements or potassium sparing diuretics can cause hyperkalemia. If you are taking diuretic along with Zestril there is a chance of developing hypotension. Therefore it is recommended to discontinue diuretic 2 days before Lisinopril treatment.  The concomitant use of antidiabetic drugs and Zestril can precipitate hypoglycemia. The co administration of lithium and Zestril should be followed by a continuous monitoring of serum lithium levels as it can lead to lithium toxicity. It is not advisable to consume the Lisinopril during pregnancy as it can lead to fetal death. Avoid activities that require alertness when you are taking Lisinopril.  Zestril is not administered in pediatric patients below the age of 6. Lisinopril should be given with caution in patients with obstructive flow from left ventricle.
